In the age of six she took home a prize in a surf contest using a run-down board that she found inside a garbage can in front of her home. The year was 2005 when she was able to start surfing. She took home her very first contest at age 6. By the age 7, she received sponsorship. The city she was born in was San Clemente, California. She later moved to Hawaii.
